Friends-of-the-Arcade Becca Schack and VideosSquared teamed to create the new music video for “Your Restaurant,” the single off her debut EP The Story. All lush colors and late-night inspiration, “Your Restaurant” was shot over one long hot night in NYC. Expect more heat from singer/songwriter Schack in the coming year, as her “electro-sexy” sound touches everything from a new acoustic project with drummer/guitarist Zack Zweig, to her latest feature on “Stars” by RhythmDB, not to mention “some beautiful remixes by Chad Jack and Alexander Orue & Diaga.”
What was your inspiration for the song?
I had previously dated a guy who worked at a restaurant but things didn’t work out. Every time I passed by his restaurant, I was always too nervous to go in and say hi since I still had feelings for him. So this song was my happily-ever-after, fairy-tale fantasy of what could have happened if I actually had the guts to go in there. More generally though, it’s a metaphor for facing your fears, asking yourself what you really want and just going for it. To me, that’s what life is all about.
Tell us about your experience shooting the clip.
This video was made possible because of a talented group of people and their faith in my music. Fataah introduced me to the video team, Ava and Rafa, who were amazing to work with. We shot at SHI, a restaurant in Long Island City, where my friend DJ Sean McMahon spins. I was concerned that filming in a hustling bustling restaurant would be a bit of a challenge, but by the time we shot the bar scene at the end of the shoot, everyone there was cheering us on and having a great time. It was so much fun! With every project, I always strive to make my art better and different each time.
How do you describe your sound?
One of my friends said it’s “Electro-sexy.” I’m going to have to stick with that.
