With a fiery, tomboy appeal and knack for catchy rock songs (think Hyde for the Internet era), we’re confident downtown singer-songwriter Reni Lane is about to claim a rather nice “Place For Us” on playlists this year. Reni got her start throwing impromptu shows in her Columbia University dorm room (industrious youths take note) and is now poised to release her debut album on March 16. We caught her at a recent hometown show at Santos Party House, and visited her Lower East Side studio space where we were treated to a very private acoustic set.

We got an unforgettable glimpse inside the Diddy Industrial Complex recently, when we tagged along with stylist Derek Roche as he prepped the new Sean John billboard in Times Square. Raised in the small town of Goldsboro, North Carolina, the New York-based Roche has been the sartorial engine behind the style icon for several years. As we saw the amount of love, sweat and tears that lead up to that one image of Mr. Combs shot by Mark Seliger, we were struck by how many talented people go into the making of that one moment. Can’t stop, won’t stop!

Ever since glimpsing Fefe in her Rock and Roll High School riff “I Want You” (playing the world’s prettiest outsider) we’ve been dying to get to know more about the reinvention of Fefe. The Toronto girl, who first came on the scene as a teenager, has had a moment to go back into the lab and emerge happier, more powerful, but still a whole lot rock ‘n’ roll.

We caught up with Fefe in NYC as she’s gearing up to release her third album, Joy. The title, she says, is a comment on her current state of mind. An accomplished vintage hound in her own right, she took us shopping at Malin Landeaus Vintage in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, a brilliant mash-up of treasures from decades past. We came, we conquered, we drank tea and scarfed vegan treats (thx, Malin—delicious!). All in all, a rocking Sunday afternoon.
