Just call it soul, said Chet Faker when we caught up with him on the Wet Deck of W Austin. It was a mellow morning, a nice respite from a full week when the Melbourne soulster played more than a handful of shows for hungry SXSW crowds. Having just watched him bring the house down with his inventive version of Blackstreet’s “No Diggity” on the previous afternoon, the Arcade was shocked to learn it had only been his eighth performance or so. Like, ever. As he nears the release of his debut EP, Thinking in Textures, we’ll be checking for his upcoming North American tour dates. This Faker is all the way real.
