We caught up with My Gold Mask on a week when the Chicago duo took NYC by storm. It all started fashionably early on Friday during New York Fashion Week, when Gretta Rochelle and Jack Armando attended the 3.1 Phillip Lim runway show, followed by their Fashion’s Night Out performance at the Lim SoHo store, dubbed one of “The Ten Best Music Shows on Fashion’s Night Out” by none other than Vogue. On Saturday the band headed to Brooklyn’s The GlassLands Gallery, where they took a moment out of their soundcheck to chat with the Arcade.
Despite their unique style and indisputable cool, both Rochelle and Armando are gracefully approachable and down-to-earth. They also happen to be a happily married couple. Their chemistry is immediately captivating as they weave in and out of each other’s thoughts, continuously finishing and starting the other’s sentences. The pair told us all about their crazy weekend in New York, their relationship with Phillip Lim, their inspiration, and of course their hometown.
My Gold Mask releases their 4-song 12″ vinyl A Million Miles (From Where We Were Last) in November. If you are in the midwest, catch them opening up for The New Pornographers at Bloomington’s Buskirk-Chumley Theatre on October 13.
