Last night I went to Santos Party House for the Neon Gold POPSHOP018 show. I was there to see Pop Etc. (the band formerly known as The Morning Benders,) but was early enough to check out the other bands….and damn, it was one of those serendipitous music moments. HAIM, the second band to play, took to the stage. Three LA sisters, long straight hair, all babes. I don’t know what I was expecting, but I was not expecting what they actually brought to the venue. They started playing with this aggressive energy, essentially with scowls on their faces…almost off putting. However, I became more and more entranced by their prowess, and it became clear that this attitude was no gimmick. A combination of rock and R&B, something about HAIM felt so fresh. The crowd was loving it. Towards the end of their set, the Haim sisters had their mom bring out cupcakes to sing Happy Birthday to two friends. It was awesome. If you didn’t know them before, now you know. HAIM. That’s it, Happy Friday!
